A deep cycle 100 amp-hour AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery, also SLA (Sealed Lead Acid). The deep cycle battery that we selected to run the Power Whisperer™ M-Type power backup system is NOT a hybrid battery. While we discourage you from attempting to replace any part or component in your Power Whisperer™ M-Type, including the battery (See Question #9, below), if you choose to replace the battery in your Unit, take care to get the exact same model and grade that came with your Power Whisperer™ M-Type Mobile Power Backup System when you first purchased your unit. The particular AGM battery we selected holds a charge much longer and attains a full charge five times faster than normal car batteries. These AGMs generate less heat, hold a charge much longer than car batteries, and work well even in extremely cold weather conditions.

Each Power Whisperer™ M-Type has a built in "smart" trickle charger that allows you to keep the battery fully charged until needed. The Power Whisperer™ M-Type battery is far more expensive than conventional marine or car batteries, so please take care not to replace it with a run-of-the-mill battery. Our AGM battery also has important safety and operations advantages.

With proper care, your battery should last 2+ years.

Anything that requires less than 2000 watts.

(2) deep cycle 80 amp-hour Lithium Ion batteries. These deep cycle battery that we selected to run the PowerWhisperer™ Pro power backup system is NOT a hybrid battery. While we discourage you from attempting to replace any part or component in your PowerWhisperer™ Pro, including the battery (See Next Question) if you choose to replace the battery in your Unit, take care to get the exact same model and grade that came with your PowerWhisperer™ Pro when you first purchased your unit.

The particular Lithium Ion Batteries we selected hold a charge much longer and attain a full charge twice as fast as AGM Batteries. These Lithium Ion Batteries, run twice as long, charge 40% faster and weigh half as much as the batteries we use in the PowerWhisperer™ M-Type. Each PowerWhisperer™ Pro has a built in "smart" trickle charger that allows you to keep the battery fully charged until needed. The PowerWhisperer™ Pro battery is far more expensive than conventional marine or car batteries, so please take care not to replace it with a run-of-the-mill battery.

With proper care, your battery should last 6-10 years.

You may purchase another battery from us if either one of your batteries in your PowerWhisperer™ Pro unit has either been damaged or surpassed its life cycle. These batteries will be sold to you at a wholesale cost. However, if your unit's battery(s) have a malfunction during your 365 day warranty, we will send you a new replacement battery(s) for free with instructions on how to replace the it.

You should not add any parts to your PowerWhisperer™ Pro, or attempt to repair it or replace any of its parts. Doing so could result in death, serious injury, and/or damage to your Power Whisperer™ Pro.

If your PowerWhisperer™ Pro has any problems, please call Customer Service at 1-877-371-1807 and a technician will assess your needs.

How long your PowerWhisperer™ Pro will run depends on the amp draw and state of the battery.

That's the 'new' smell that results from the manufacturing process, don't worry — it will go away after the first few times you use your PowerWhisperer™ Pro.

That totally depends on the state of the battery and the amount of input (charge).

Yes, placing your solar panel in direct sunlight is the most efficient way to use your PowerWhisperer™ Pro.

The solar panel will not work as well in overcast weather, but it will deliver some charge to the unit.

Yes, but avoid submerging it in water.

The best thing you can do is charge the unit using the solar panels. Charge the unit to 13.6 volts using the solar panel, and then use the trickle charger until your unit is fully charged (13.6 – 14.4 volts). You should turn the inverter off until charging is complete. Note: If your PowerWhisperer™ Pro drains completely, it is best to charge the unit completely before you attempt to use it again.

That sound is the "low voltage" alarm, and whenever you hear it, you should turn off the inverter and immediately charge your PowerWhisperer™ Pro to avoid damaging the unit.

We do not recommend operating the PowerWhisperer™ Pro with the lid closed, due to heat buildup on the inside of the unit and the resulting restricted access to the outlets.

Yes, absolutely, but we do recommend that you at least keep your PowerWhisperer™ Pro under a protective cover.

Shut the lid on the top of the unit, and deploy some type of protective covering, like an umbrella or a tarp to protect your PowerWhisperer™ Pro.

Yes, but we do not recommend it. If you do use a battery charger, keep the charge rate under 10 amps. Your charger should have a built-in regulator or timer to prevent over-charging.

Yes, if your computer can normally be charged through a USB port/110 AC/12 volt DC.

Yes, but be sure to size the wire to the appliance being used. Shorter cords are recommended.

Careful cleaning with a damp cloth is the best way to clear the solar panels of excess dirt/dust.

This means the panels were exposed to a light source while they were being plugged in, and/or Breaker 1, the controller breaker, was not disengaged. Always, always put your solar panels FACEDOWN, or cover it with a solid, opaque material. Never expose your solar panels to sunlight when hooking it up to the PowerWhisperer™ Pro and ALWAYS disengage the breakers before hooking the solar panels up to the PowerWhisperer™ Pro

Yes. Note that all electronics have their limitations, and the PowerWhisperer™ Pro is no exception to the rule. We recommend that you only use your PowerWhisperer™ Pro when the temperature outside is at least 32° F and below 105° F. Please refer to the attached appendices for each individual component's recommended temperature range for operation and storage.

Although not exact, this is a good determination:

  • 100% = 13.6-14.4 volts
  • 75% = 12.8 volts
  • 50% = 12.2 volts
  • 25% = 11.8 volts
  • 0% = 11 volts

(Note: voltage estimates are made at resting state, a battery is at rest when it is not being charged or used by the inverter)

Yes, if your well is powered by 120 volts (less than 1000 watts).

No, but there are transformers available to help you do this. We recommend that you contact and hire a certified electrician to help you with this process.

The 100-watt roll up, thin-film solar panels (yielding 8 amps total) measure 15 1/2" x 79 1/2" and weighs 7.8 lbs.

It's a sunny day out, but the panels are only producing a few amps. What's wrong? Nothing. Check the battery to see if it is full. When full, the battery will not accept the full charging potential of the panel.

The PowerWhisperer™ Pro can power any device is 110/120 Volts and has a wattage of 2000 watts or less. With that being said, we DO NOT recommend trying to power devices with heating elements of any sort. These devices will not have practical runtimes and could potentially damage the unit.

The power outlets are located on the side of the inverter beside the power switch.

The trickle charger is designed for slow charging to help maintain a healthy battery. If the readout on the solar controller is 12 volts or lower, then it is best to charge your PowerWhisperer™ Pro with the solar panels, since they are designed for max amp charging. When the panels have charged your PowerWhisperer™ Pro to 12.8 volts, then use the trickle charger until the solar controller reads 13 – 13.6 volts. The trickle charger automatically shuts off after 16-18 hours. Unplug the trickle charger and plug it back it to reset it.

Note: Calculating a device's runtime depends on numerous variables. Charge of the battery, device usage, etc. You should expect that runtimes will always vary each time when using the PowerWhisperer™ Pro. Many products use motors that do not run continuously when the appliance is in use(refrigerators, etc.). These products are harder to make calculations for due to unknown variables (how long and how often the motor will run). Charging the PowerWhisperer™ Pro while using the inverter (recommended), will also affect the equation.

You may find that some appliances like hair dryers and microwaves draw too much power to make them safe or practical for use with the PowerWhisperer™ Pro. We DO NOT Recommend these devices. No portable power unit (including the PowerWhisperer™ Pro) will run an air conditioner. But you will find that many very useful items like blenders, freezers, lights, and power tools work quite well with this system. Instead of an air conditioner, consider using a fan for cooling.

No. The PowerWhisperer™ Pro is a stand-alone unit and is not able to be connected to the power grid.
